Gambians love dance and song! Troupes perform at the hotel on special occasions and weekly at Boss Lady. The dancing is fascinating! Jolas, Mandinkas, Woloffs, Serrehs, each have their own style - and it is not unusual for people to join in - in fact you are encouraged to do so!

At Christmas time troupes roam the streets and it often happens that they just stop and perform.

 

Softer background music is played at Captain's Table on the kora, a string instrument, and the balafon, a wooden xylophone, sometimes with jembe or drum accompaniment.

During the day Bakotu has a nice quiet and relaxing atmosphere. There is no poolside entertainment or loud music to disturb the birdsong or the sounds of the sea.
